That said, there do remain some rays of light amidst all this heat. I’ve made a job out of analyzing old games, and even I sometimes want to say, “Dude, they’re just old games! Really, truly, they’re not worth getting so worked up over.” What an odd thing to construct a public persona around. As far as I know, there’s zero street cred to be gained in the wider culture from being good at playing weird old videogames - or for that matter from being good at playing videogames of any stripe. For today I will just say that, even aside from their ugliness, I find such sentiments strange. Just why so many angry, intolerant personalities are so attracted to computer games is a fascinating question, but must remain a question for another day. This rhetoric of inclusion and exclusion is all too symptomatic of the uglier sides of gaming culture. Some of what I’ve written here over the years has certainly generated its share of heat as well as light, not so much among those of you who are regular readers and commenters - you remain the most polite, thoughtful, insightful, and just plain nice readers any writer could hope to have - as among the ones who fire off nasty emails from anonymous addresses, who post screeds on less polite sites to which I’m occasionally pointed, or who offer up their drive-by comments right here every once in a while.Ī common theme of these responses is that I’m not worthy of writing about this stuff, whether because I wasn’t there at the time - actually, I was, but whatever - or because I’m just not man enough to take my lumps and power through the really evil, unfair games. Still, one thing my years as a digital antiquarian have taught me is that you tread on people’s nostalgia at your peril. I like to think that this approach has made my blog a uniquely enlightening window into gaming history. From the beginning of this project, I’ve worked to remove the nostalgia factor from my writing about old games, to evaluate each game strictly on its own merits and demerits.

SABnzbd - The automated Usenet download tool it’s slow but doesn’t cause me any issues I would also say (just from personal experience) use CPUID. Check all your cables while you’re there. My brothers system kept crashing underload but his cpu cable was damaged and problem fixed. If your oc did cause the crash again go back and check the PSU cables. Then as you go along installing all your stuff take note if the errors restart. If still no crash then do a proper stress test and get the system warm to make sure temps are still fine. If it doesn’t crash then go enable your overclock, no other special settings. If you only have 2 try 1 stick at a time, and try each in both slots. Could be memory slots too so try the other two slots if you have 4. anyways, install windows and your necessary drivers, but try do them one at a time and see if it starts after installing a certain driver?Ģ) Enable one of your memory profiles only and go test again. So now I can’t use that program but my pc works perfectly again. I have huge issues with HWinfo64, it causes my games to crash if it’s running in the background (proved this) and if I have Corsair icue open it messes with my commander pro. Personally I am convinced windows 10 contributes to most of the kak we face. If no- then go to step 2, if yes then I would suggest doing a format again onto a different drive. But you have to but the work in when you have these issues.ġ) Restore bios to optimized settings (yes this will disable your ram profile) and see if it does the same thing. Hey man! Sorry you’re having kak, but don’t be mad dude, this is apart of Pc life and there are issues we just gotta fix. Didnt do jackįormatted ssd many times and did fresh install of windows.ĭidn't get to do much troubleshoot, not my pc.ĭoes anyone know what can be done, or should i toss this crap PC and buy intel? I updated the bios with the latest one I could find on Asus' website. Used to randomly restart, went away during the winter, and now randomly shuts down. When I render videos using Hitfilm it will fail many times over. My CSGO just freezes randomly quite a lot, but can end task and start again. When I google the error code it always refers to some driver issue. I get a lot of BSOD's playing games, certain games more than others. I dislike intel and their sleazy marketing strategies, but its better than having an AMD PC that only work intermittently. I tried so many troubleshooting ideas to no avail and now I just hate my PC. Now, I had issues from the start and so did my other friends. I have since bought a R5 3600 at launch and convinced some of my friends to also get AMD. When the CPU's launched I watched every video en enjoyed the "rip intel" comments. When AMD announced their 3000 series of Ryzen CPU's, I was on every page checking for rumors and I was ready to get on the hype train. * Measure yourself against open wheel, tuner, touring, endurance, demolition, drift, drag and street races. * From nice and light to devilishly difficult, you set the bar. When manually configuring syntax highlighting, you can add individual instructions with the highlight command. To enable the syntax highlight feature you also need to include the following line: syntax on Here, you can set the default color scheme by modifying the colorscheme line and setting the theme you prefer. To make the changes permanent, modify Vim’s configuration file with the wanted color settings.įirst, you need to open the Vim startup file, located in /etc or users home directory under the name. Once you close Vim, the color scheme returns to the default settings. Take a look at this file and its initial color scheme when opened with the Vim text editor:Ĭhanges you have made to the color settings are not permanent. The best way to show how the highlight command works, is with a simple example. Instead, the values you use for these highlight keys include: bold, italic, underline, reverse, and none. However, cterm and gui are not used with color values. When specifying the values for ctermfg, ctermbg/ guifg, guibg, you can use standard color names, their prescribed numbers or hex values (only in the GUI). Users who prefer the GUI need to use the highlight keys: The key=value element varies depending on whether you use a GUI or work in a terminal window.įor example, if you are working inside a terminal that has color support, you could include any of the following highlight keys: To see an extensive list of all the groups, refer to Vim’s official documentation. These are just some out of the many Vim highlight groups. Cursor (the character under the cursor).NonText (characters that don’t exist in the text). There are numerous groups you can define in the previously mentioned command. While highlight is the instruction, the element is the item(s), which should be affected by the key-value modifiers. Or, if you’d like to tweak a few colors manually, take a look at my vim editor color settings tutorial.Īs a final note, if you’re new to the concept of syntax highlighting, here’s a link to my vim syntax highlighting tutorial.Note: You can substitute highlight with hi for short. If you don’t like any of these default color schemes you can find others on the internet, or even create your own, using one of these files as an example. As an example, I just found all these files in the /usr/share/vim/vim72/colors directory on my Mac OS X system: vim, and begin with the name of the colorscheme. All the files end with the file extension. You can find your installed vim colorscheme files in the colors subdirectory of your vim installation directory. (For more information on vimrc configuration files, see my vim vimrc configuration file example.) What vim color schemes are installed?Ī common question at this point is “What color schemes are available on my system?” To use the desert colorscheme just add these lines to your vimrc file: I haven’t used Windows in a long time, but I think the filename is just vimrc on Windows’ systems. The vimrc file is located in your home directory, so on Mac, Unix, and Linux systems the vimrc file actually begins with a decimal (it’s a “hidden” file), so you can edit it like this: Once you’ve settled on a vim colorscheme that you like, you’ll want to configure that as the default colorscheme in your vim configuration file, vimrc. Specifying a colorscheme in your vimrc file Note: If those color schemes don’t seem to make any change to your vim session, try some of the other color schemes listed below, such as darkblue, evening, shine, etc. If you want to use the desert color scheme instead, just specify it instead of delek, like this: Or, if you prefer less typing, just use the colo command, like this:Įither of these commands tell vim that you want to use the delek colorscheme. If you’re in a vim editor session, just issue the vim colorscheme command from last line mode, like this: Using a vim color scheme is actually pretty simple. Note: In a previous version of this document I referred to both vim and the vi editor, and someone correctly pointed out that the two are not the same, especially in this case. In this article I’ll take an easier route, and show how you can use existing color schemes in your vim editor sessions. In an earlier vim color configuration tutorial I described how to have fine-grained control of your vim color settings. |
